NDMA conducts two-day national simulation exercise “Winter Freeze”
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) successfully conducted a two-day National Simulation Exercise (SimEx), titled “Winter Freeze”, from December 3rd to 4th, 2024, at its headquarters in Islamabad.

The exercise was a key step in NDMA’s efforts to enhance Pakistan’s disaster preparedness and response strategies, focusing on challenges posed by winter-related disasters.

The simulation covered a range of scenarios, including extreme cold weather, smog, and earthquakes. Key scenarios included:

Severe Blizzard in Northern Areas: Simulating snowstorms, road blockages, power outages, and stranded tourists, the exercise tested emergency responses and coordination.

Major Earthquake in Northern Balochistan and Southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: This aspect of the simulation evaluated rescue operations, medical response, and the mobilization of humanitarian resources in remote regions.

Severe Smog in Punjab: With a focus on Lahore, the exercise addressed health emergencies, medical responses, and air pollution prevention strategies.

Participants included Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA), State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), law enforcement agencies, and representatives from humanitarian organizations.

The event provided an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of inter-agency coordination, response mechanisms, and readiness plans. Participants commended NDMA for organizing the platform, highlighting its importance for fostering collaboration and identifying areas for improvement.
