Sultana Nasab: Breaking records by summiting K2 while pregnant

Sultana Nasab
Sultana Nasab, a trailblazing mountaineer from Pakistan, has etched her name in history with an extraordinary feat—scaling K2, the world’s second-highest peak, while five months pregnant.

On July 28, 2024, Sultana became the third Pakistani woman to conquer K2, showcasing unparalleled determination and resilience. Just four months later, on November 25, 2024, she welcomed a healthy baby girl, further solidifying her journey as a symbol of strength and inspiration.

Hailing from Shimshal Valley, a renowned hub for mountaineers, Sultana was the only climber from her six-member women’s expedition team, led by acclaimed Pakistani mountaineer Sirbaz Khan, to successfully reach K2’s summit.

Reflecting on her historic climb, Sultana stated, “I grew up watching women in mountain communities work tirelessly, even during pregnancies. For us, hard work is not a choice—it’s survival.” Her achievement, she explained, was less about taking risks and more about demonstrating the capabilities of women when prepared and determined.

“For many women, working through pregnancy is a necessity, not an option. My decision to climb was personal, grounded in my training and understanding of my body,” Sultana shared, emphasizing the importance of breaking societal barriers.

Sultana’s journey transcends mountaineering. It’s a testament to the power of perseverance, preparation, and belief in oneself. Her story has inspired countless individuals, highlighting the incredible strength of women and encouraging others to pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles.

Her achievement stands as a reminder: challenges, no matter how daunting, can be overcome with unwavering determination and the courage to push boundaries.
