Two cops martyred, three wounded in Shangla checkpost attack

Two policemen were martyred and three others injured in a terrorist attack on a police check-post in the Chakesar area of District Shangla, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Tuesday, police sources confirmed.
The martyred officers have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Hassan Khan and Constable Nisar Khan.
The three injured personnel, identified as Muharrar Arshad Khan, Constable Arshad Khan, and Constable Rifat, were immediately transferred to a hospital in Battagram for medical treatment.
According to police, a group of militants ambushed the police post in Chakesar, targeting the officers on duty.
The attack is believed to be part of a growing wave of terrorism targeting law enforcement agencies across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where security forces have increasingly become the targets of militant attacks.
In a separate incident in Swabi, a police constable was martyred in a gun attack by militants. The attack occurred within the jurisdiction of Parmuli Police Station when militants opened fire on Constable Ishtiaq Ahmad.
His brother, Zubir Mohammad, revealed that Ishtiaq had been returning from his poultry farm late on Monday night when the militants ambushed him. Ishtiaq had been last posted at the sub-division of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company.
Nearly 97% of these fatalities occurred in KP and Balochistan – marking the highest percentage in a decade, and over 92% of these incidents of terror attacks and security forces’ operations were recorded in the same provinces.
The total fatalities from three quarters of this year have now surpassed the total fatalities recorded for the entire 2023; the number of fatalities rose to at least 1534 in the first three quarters compared to 1523 in 2023.
Meanwhile, terrorist groups continue to reorganise and beef up their ranks. Most of the terror attacks remained unclaimed by terrorist or insurgent groups, likely for tactical reasons, as per the report.
