Pakistan calls for global action against banned TTP, Majeed Brigade in Afghanistan

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram, highlighted Pakistan’s security concerns at the UN Security Council meeting, questioning why global discussions on terrorism threats often overlook the dangers Pakistan faces.

He urged the UN General Assembly to establish a dedicated institution to counter terrorism more effectively.

During the session, Pakistan raised concerns about the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Majeed Brigade, emphasizing the threat posed by terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil.

Munir Akram reiterated Pakistan’s stance that Afghanistan’s interim government must fulfill its responsibilities and prevent its territory from being used for attacks against Pakistan.

Pakistani officials have presented evidence that Afghan nationals are involved in terrorist activities within Pakistan. Recently, a terrorist killed in a clash with security forces in the Datta Khel area of North Waziristan was identified as an Afghan citizen. The deceased, named Luqman Khan alias Nusrat, was confirmed to be a resident of the Spera district in Khost province, Afghanistan. According to the Pakistan Army spokesperson, efforts are underway to return his body to Afghan authorities.

Pakistan once again urged the international community to take effective measures against terrorism and hold Afghanistan accountable for ensuring that its territory is not used for cross-border attacks.
