NDMA Convenes National Disaster Management Coordination Forum to Strengthen Federation-Province Synergy

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) convened a high-level session of the Disaster Management Coordination Forum (DMCF) today at its headquarters in Islamabad. The forum was chaired by Lt. General Inam Haider Malik, HI (M), Chairman NDMA, and brought together senior officials from across the country, including heads of all Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA).

The primary aim of the forum was to enhance coordination between the federal and provincial disaster management agencies, providing strategic direction and reviewing ongoing efforts in disaster preparedness and response. The meeting is part of NDMA’s commitment to institutionalizing disaster risk reduction through an integrated, whole-of-government approach.

During the meeting, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on operational challenges, resource gaps, and the effectiveness of current coordination mechanisms. They also shared lessons learned from past emergencies and exchanged insights on anticipatory actions and best practices in risk mitigation.

Key areas of focus included improving data sharing across agencies, developing joint contingency planning frameworks, and aligning national and provincial strategies to ensure a swift and coherent disaster response. The forum also emphasized the need for capacity-building and technology integration to enhance early warning systems and rapid response capabilities.

Concluding the session, Chairman NDMA issued clear directives aimed at boosting inter-agency collaboration and operational readiness. He underscored the importance of continuous dialogue through platforms like DMCF to unify national efforts and build resilience at all levels of governance.

NDMA reaffirmed its commitment to reinforcing a comprehensive national disaster risk management framework through regular engagement with provincial stakeholders, recognizing that shared responsibility and coordinated planning are crucial in addressing the increasing frequency and intensity of disasters in Pakistan.
