Torrential rain lashes Lahore; roof collapse in Sheikhupura kills siblings

Heavy rain hits lahore areas on Wednesday.
Heavy rain hit Lahore and its surrounding areas on Wednesday, bringing pleasant weather but also causing waterlogging and disruption across the city.

Downpours were recorded in several parts of the provincial capital, including Johar Town, The Mall, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Wahdat Road, Allama Iqbal Town, and Mustafa Town.

In a tragic incident in Sheikhupura, a house roof collapsed due to the rain, resulting in the death of two siblings—a boy and a girl—while two others were injured.

Rescue 1122 teams promptly responded, providing first aid and shifting the injured to a nearby hospital.

The deceased were identified as two-year-old Arham, son of Moazzam, and five-year-old Fatima, daughter of Moazzam.

Those who were injured were nine-year-old Maryam, daughter of Moazzam and 23-year-old Sidra, daughter of Riaz.

PDMA report on rain

On the other hand, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), in its report on the amount of rainfall recorded in different cities of the Punjab during the last 24 hours, said that Khanewal received the highest amount of rainfall, totaling 51 millimeters, followed by Sahiwal 44 millimeters, Rawalpindi 42 millimeters and Murree 41 millimeters.

Similarly, Lahore received 23 millimeters, Okara 30 millimeters, Mandi Bahauddin 27 millimeters, Mangla 24 millimeters and Toba Tek Singh 13 millimeters.

Similarly, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Bahawalpur, Kasur, Bahawalnagar, Sargodha, Multan and Jhang also received rain.

The PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia said the current spell of monsoon rains would continue until July 13.

He informed that torrential rains were expected in a majority of districts of Punjab during the next 24 hours, including Lahore, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat and Hafizabad.

He advised the people to exercise caution. “Don’t take bath in canals and rivers. Section 144 has already been imposed around canals and rivers.

The concerned administrations must ensure its enforcement,” he said, adding, “Stay at safe places while it is lightning.”

He further said that the people living in crumbling buildings must find alternate places to live.

Kathia urged drivers to drive at a slow pace and keep distance from other vehicles. “In case of an emergency, contact helpline number 1129.”
