Kabul Hosts 7th China–Pakistan–Afghanistan Trilateral Dialogue on Regional Peace
Pakistan stands at the center of this framework, advancing shared priorities of security, connectivity, and humanitarian support, while China plays a stabilizing role in easing frictions between Islamabad and the Interim Afghan Government.
A key focus of the Kabul round is to consolidate progress on Afghanistan’s integration into CPEC under the Belt and Road Initiative, agreed in principle in May 2025, which reflects Pakistan’s strategic vision of transforming Afghanistan from isolation into a regional bridge economy linking South and Central Asia.
Connectivity corridors, Gwadar port access, and energy routes are projected as collective dividends, promising jobs, trade, and infrastructure development in Afghanistan, thereby reducing drivers of militancy.
For the Taliban regime, CPEC connectivity offers a much-needed political and economic boost amid sanctions and international isolation, while for Pakistan it demonstrates responsible diplomacy by anchoring Afghanistan into regional economic frameworks alongside addressing cross-border security concerns.
Counterterrorism cooperation remains at the core of the trilateral, with all three sides pledging a united stance against TTP, ETIM, ISKP, and al-Qaida, ensuring the protection of Chinese nationals and CPEC projects while preventing external interference.
For China, militancy in Afghanistan directly threatens Uyghur security and Belt and Road investments, making security coordination with Pakistan and Afghanistan vital.
Framed as a win-win mechanism Pakistan as the bridge, China as the stabilizer, and Afghanistan as the partner in connectivity the trilateral dialogue emerges as the only viable framework linking security with prosperity to ensure lasting regional stability.
