Punjab braces for ninth monsoon spell starting tomorrow

The spokesman for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Monday that several cities of the province namely Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Murree, Galyat, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha and Mianwali will receive thundershowers.
The spokesman further said that nullahs and streams in Rawalpindi, Galyat, Murree and other cities might swell on September 18 and September 19 due to torrential rains.
On the other hand, PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia said that on the instructions of Punjab chief minister, all commissioners and deputy commissioners of the province were on high alert.
The DG advised people to take precautionary measures in view of the inclement weather. “Avoid going for a picnic, especially on the riverside,” he said, adding, “Stay at safe places to protect yourself from windstorms. Contact the PDMA Helpline 1129 in case of an emergency.
Normal water flow in Punjab rivers
On the other hand, the flow of water in all rivers of Punjab is normal, said the PDMA spokesman on Monday.
However, he added, there was a high flood at Head Panjnad as the water flow was over 300,000 cusecs; the River Sutlej was in medium flood at Ganda Singh Wala where the water flow had been recorded at over 100,000 cusecs.
He further said there was a low flood at Head Sulemanki where the water flow had been recorded at 89,000 cusecs.
The spokesman informed that the flow of water was normal at Marala, Khanki, Qadirabad and Head Trimmu in the River Chenab.
“Likewise, the water flow is normal at Jasarr, Shahdara, Sadhnai and Baloki in the River Ravi as well as in the streams and nullahs of Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan,” he elaborated.
