Lahore bans heavy vehicles to curb worsening smog

To curb worsening smog and air pollution in Lahore
To curb worsening smog and air pollution in Lahore, authorities have imposed a strict ban on heavy vehicles that fail to comply with environmental SOPs.

Trucks and trolleys transporting sand, gravel, or other construction materials without proper covers or tarpaulins are no longer permitted to enter the city.

The Punjab Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has launched a 24-hour monitoring operation to inspect such vehicles and ensure compliance with pollution control measures.

According to an EPA spokesperson, a zero-tolerance policy is being enforced against smoke-emitting vehicles and overloaded trolleys.

Teams have been deployed at all major entry points of Lahore, where fines are being imposed and violators’ vehicles impounded.

Meanwhile, a large-scale water-sprinkling operation is underway at construction sites and dust-prone areas across the city.

The EPA, WASA, and district administration have been jointly spraying water since last night to help reduce airborne dust and improve air quality.

The aim of the water sprinkling operation is to prevent flying particles from entering the atmosphere and turning into smog.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed all departments to submit daily reports on anti-smog activities and make public awareness campaigns more effective.
