Punjab Faces Hazardous Pollution Surge; Lahore Ranks Second Globally

The health of Lahore residents is at serious risk as smog and pollution continue to rise, with the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 410, ranking Lahore as the second most polluted city globally. Karachi follows at fourth place with an AQI of 213.

Across Punjab, smog is widespread. Faisalabad recorded an extremely unhealthy AQI above 500.

In Lahore, certain areas reported even higher levels: Gulberg II at 782, Shalimar Road at 547, Iqbal Town at 249, Civil Secretariat at 247, Saddar Cantt at 233, Barki Road at 225, DHA Phase Five at 217, Johar Town at 206, Bedian Road at 204, and Askari 10 at 185.

Experts warn that pollution levels are likely to remain above normal for the coming days and have advised residents to take precautionary measures.

Citizens are urged to wear masks, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, and keep doors and windows closed.

Anyone experiencing breathing difficulties or eye irritation is advised to consult a doctor immediately.
