RAWALPINDI: Authorities have destroyed 16,000 litres of expired cold drinks and juices during a raid carried out by the Punjab Food Authority in Rawalpindi as part of an ongoing crackdown against the sale of substandard and unhygienic food items.

According to officials, a PFA inspection team raided a warehouse located in the Ratta Amral area after receiving credible information about the storage of expired beverages.

Expiry Dates Being Altered

During the raid, officials discovered that the original expiry dates on bottles were allegedly being erased using a buffer machine, allowing the expired products to be repackaged and sold in the market.

Authorities immediately seized the stock and destroyed approximately 16,000 litres of beverages to prevent their distribution.

Suspects Arrested

Police accompanying the PFA team arrested the individuals involved in tampering with the expiry dates, and a case has been registered against them.

Ramadan Demand Raises Concern

Officials noted that the operation comes at a critical time, as consumption of cold drinks and juices typically rises during the holy month of Ramadan, increasing the risk of expired products entering the market.

Food safety authorities have warned that strict action will continue against anyone involved in selling expired or substandard food items.
