Cleric Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza detained under 3-MPO

Cleric Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza has been taken into custody and shifted to jail under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order, 1960 (MPO), police confirmed on Tuesday.

According to officials, the arrest followed complaints lodged by several religious groups against him.

Section 3 of the MPO law empowers authorities to detain individuals to prevent them from “acting in any manner prejudicial to public safety or the maintenance of public order.”

Mirza, who runs a YouTube channel with over 3.1 million subscribers and more than 2,400 videos, is widely known for his religious lectures and commentary.

In 2021, the cleric survived an assassination attempt and sustained injuries when he was stabbed with a knife by assailants during one of his weekly lectures.
