Punjab PDMA Issues Warning for Medium to High River Floods

PDMA Punjab has warned of medium to high floods in the province
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has warned of medium to high floods in the province’s rivers as heavy monsoon rains continue to affect the region.

“There is flooding in the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, as well as in adjacent streams and drains,” a PDMA spokesman said on Monday.

PDMA has expressed concern over a potential medium to high flood in the Chenab River over the next 24 hours, as a large water flow from the Tawi River near Jammu is expected to enter the Chenab.

Notably, New Delhi has specifically alerted Islamabad about the possibility of severe flooding in the Tawi River.

This influx could impact districts including Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Chiniot, Jhang, and nearby areas, the PDMA warned.

Authorities in Gujrat and Sialkot have been advised to remain on high alert to manage the likely flood situation.

According to PDMA, the water inflow and outflow at Marala Headworks on the Chenab are 127,000 cusecs and 109,000 cusecs, respectively.

At Khanki Headworks, the river’s inflow and outflow are 128,000 cusecs and 121,000 cusecs.

The Sutlej River is experiencing high flood levels at Ganda Singh Wala with a water flow of 133,000 cusecs, while at Sulemanki Headworks it is at medium flood with 94,000 cusecs inflow and 87,000 cusecs outflow, PDMA added.

PDMA spokesman has apprehended likely flash floods at hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan.

Indus River has been in low flood at Kalabagh and Chashma, while Ravi River has been in low flood at Jassar with 53,000 cusecs water flow, according to PDMA Punjab.

The authority has advised citizens to evacuate to safer places from the beds of rivers. “Flood relief camps have been established in affected areas,” DG PDMA has said.
