Authorities order evacuations ahead of planned dyke breach near Multan

The dyke will be breached to protect the Shershah Bridge near Multan, with heavy machinery already deployed at the designated breaking point.
The bridge has been closed to traffic, and officials have issued urgent warnings directing residents to evacuate immediately.
According to sources, the technical committee, comprising representatives from the Multan and Muzaffargarh administrations, has set 393.50 feet as the critical water level, at which the dyke will be breached.
Currently, the water level has reached 392 feet.
Emergency declared in Jalalpur Pirwala
In the Jalalpur Pirwala tehsil of Multan, an 11-foot-high flood levee broke yesterday, inundating several settlements.
As waters surged, residents scrambled to safety, many seeking refuge on rooftops.
An emergency has been declared in the region, with markets closed and evacuation efforts underway. Due to the worsening situation, military forces have been deployed to assist civil administration in rescue operations.
High flood at Panjnad
There was high flood at Panjnad Headwords in Och Sharif where water level has risen to 452,930 cusecs due to soaring Rivers Chenab and Sutlej.
The flood was have so far inundated hundreds of houses in dozens of localities including Makhan Bela, Beit Bakhtiari, Rasulpur, Bikhri, Kachi Lal, Kachi Shakrani, Chak Kahal, Moza Gumani, Balla Jhallan and Sarwarabad where crops on thousands of acres of land have also been destroyed.
17 villages in Luddan submerged:
In Luddan, the scale of destruction from the flood has intensified. Seventeen villages in Union Council Dad Kamira, including Lakha Saldira, Mian Pur, Ariwala, Mero Baloch, Bhindi Jatira, and Jatira Nobaramad, are now underwater.
Other affected areas include Basti Ajmal, Basti Ameen Khan Baloch, Moza Noon, Moza Khichi, Moza Twana, and Janda Joiya.
Former Union Council Chairman Mian Shahid Sahibzada has been actively engaged in relief efforts for the flood victims.
Sutlej swells at Ganda Singh Wala, Bahawalnagar, Pakpattan:
The Sutlej River is experiencing high-level flooding, with over 300,000 cusecs of water passing near Qaboola Sharif.
Numerous villages have been inundated, mud houses have collapsed, and families have been rendered homeless.
Many affected residents are left stranded under the open sky, waiting for aid.
At Head Ganda Singh Wala, the water flow has surged to 319,000 cusecs.
In the Bahawalnagar district alone, 169 villages have gone underwater, while Pakpattan, Chishtian, and Khairpur Tamewali are also facing severe flooding after embankments in the region gave way.
Dire situation in Indus: Chackaran facing 714,000 cusecs flow:
The situation is equally dire in the Indus River, which is swelling rapidly.
At Chacharan, the river is experiencing high-level flooding, with the flow reaching 714,000 cusecs.
In Kot Mithan, a massive 900,000-cusec flood wave is anticipated.
Water at Guddu Barrage continues to rise:
Meanwhile, water levels at Guddu Barrage continue to rise, with inflows reaching 443,494 cusecs.
Over the past 24 hours, an increase of 41,868 cusecs has been recorded, and forecasts indicate a further rise in the coming hours.
Mangla Dam 90% full:
On the other hand, the extreme water inflow has filled the Tarbela and Rawal dams to capacity once again.
Mangla Dam is now 90% full, with water levels reaching 1,232 feet.
Khanpur Dam's water storage has reached 1,980 feet, while Simly Dam’s level stands at 2,314 feet.
